This paper deals with the creation of women’s art and dynamics which this term evokes. We build upon interviews with women artists who create gender non-stereotypical/sensitive art, and concentrate on how their art is/not engaged in the wider societal context. We follow the internal and external dialogues of women artists about the perception of their art, reactions of the audiences and the media and encounter a very specific stance against wholesale labelling in terms of ideological streams. This unwillingness can be interpreted as the unwillingness to expose one’s work/art to an a priori inclusion in women’s political art. They do not endorse social engagement of art as a major concern, and the term "feminism with an attribute" is put forth. We also concentrate on a specific relationship of women artists to feminism and discover that the multiple meanings of their work, despite open thematisation of gender routines, often resist an inclusion under the label feminism.
