Sleep Practices among Parents and Childless Individuals.

While sleep is genetically determined to some extent, it is also largely socially driven. Previous research on sleep is mostly biomedical and inconsistent since the number of analysed sleep variables is limited and it often does not distinguish between genders and parents based on the age of their child/ren. Using representative data from the Czech Household Panel Study (2018) with answers from 2,017 childless individuals and 1,022 parents and employing a method of propensity score matching, the manuscript use…

Sleep quality and sleep routines as mediators of stressors and life satisfaction in Czech university students: a structural equation model

Introduction: Sleep is especially important to overall well-being. Some aspects of sleep have been well documented, for example sleep quantity and its effect on well-being, but the value of a consistent sleep routine remains poorly studied. University students are a population group especially susceptible to stress, mental health problems and poor sleep quality and experience changing daily schedules. Investigating the protective power of sleep in this population group is therefore an important avenue of rese…

Dočasný nárůst důvěry ve vládu a dodržování protiepidemických opatření na počátku koronavirové krize

Public support for government institutions tends to increase in the face of threats such as armed conflict, terrorism, or natural disasters. This phenomenon, known as the 'rally-'round-the-flag' effect, has also been observed as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic in many countries. Citizens' trust in the government's good intentions and ability to handle a crisis is very important, as it gives government the legitimacy to take strong measures. High trust in government also increases citizens' willingness to c…

Transnacionalismus, integrace a identifikace: Diskuse o proměnlivosti a dynamice sociálních procesů na příkladu studentské migrace z Ukrajiny

Sustainability through the liaison with data archive users

As a social science data archive, we focus on collecting research data and archiving it. However, there are more responsibilities that come with data archiving: cooperation on international social surveys (ISSP, ESS), supporting secondary data analysis and much more. Significant part of our work is to communicate with students and researchers, to educate them about data management and data analysis. Although the relationship we have is functional and seems sufficient, we tend to ask ourselves: who are the data…

This study focuses on the approaches used by Czech social workers operating in the field of child protection to resolve parental conflicts and looks specifically at their inclination to employ defensive practice. Defensive practice involves prioritising regulations and prescribed rules over the interests of clients, i.e. parents and children. The aim of this study is to verify, with the help of a questionnaire, the theoretical connections between the use of defensive practice and several factors that represent…

(Un)expected exception: validating acquiescent response style factor in the Czech Republic

This study explores the acquiescent response style (ARS) among respondents in the Czech Republic. To analyse ARS, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed and the response style (RS) was modelled as a latent variable. The RS factor in the CFA model must be validated by its relationship to education and age, i.e. proxies of cognitive ability. The two studies presented in this article use large amount of data as all available balanced batteries of items were analysed. In Study 1, the RS factor showed no c…
