The COVID-19 pandemic was both an opportunity and a challenge for the executive and legislative branches. The quality of democracy in both countries significantly affected their ability to deal effectively with the crisis. The study analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the relationship between the government and parliament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The functioning of the executive and parliament, especially the opposition, during the pandemic is demonstrated through the example of declaring and extending the state of emergency and adopting laws under a state of legislative emergency. The study is based on an extensive analysis of parliamentary documents, academic literature, media sources, and interviews with experts.
