The effectiveness of selected housing subsidies in the Czech Republic

The goal of the article is to evaluate the effectiveness of the new housing policy in the Czech Republic as an example of a transitional society after the collapse of communism. The first part provides a brief history of the housing policy dating back to 1918. The second part presents the results of empirical tests of effectiveness (or equity) of selected housing subsidies applied during the transition. The economic subsidy from rent regulation, tax relief and housing allowances are especially assessed. …

Interrelations between housing supply agents: the metropolitan housing market in Prague

The paper presents the main findings from a detailed analysis of the interrelations between selected agents in the supply side of the housing market in Prague. It discusses the sources of potential market inefficiencies emerging from the nature of interrelations between developers, construction firms, and the producers of building materials in transition economy. The results highlight the barriers which prevent housing supply to react effectively to changes in housing demand.…

Udržitelnost vývoje cen bytů v České republice

The article discusses the housing market theory and the methods and indicators used for the evaluation of long-term sustainability of house price trends. The change in house price trends in 2007 in many countries could be interpreted as the result of the previous house price growth, often labelled as a price bubble. The authors assess the sustainability of house price development in the Czech Republic. The results show that house prices in the CR could be above their “equilibrium” levels at the end of 2007…

The future of housing systems after the transition: The case of the Czech Republic

The article attempts to answer the question about the future of housing system in the Czech Republic. Using the results from several attitude surveys and unique experiment, the authors tried to find out whether there is any chance of deviating from the path leading towards a housing system unilaterally based on homeownership tenure. The empirical results, however, show that people’s tenure preferences remain strongly skewed in favour of owner-occupation.…

The aim of the article is an analysis of changes affecting the financial affordability of rental and owner-occupies housing over the course of the economic transformation in the Czech Republic.
