Values and Electoral Decisions in the Czech Republic

This article is an attempt to identify the role of politically relevant values and attitudes in voting behaviour in the Czech Republic. In view of the results of earlier analyses, which show there has been a process of intense crystallization of left–right political axis of the Czech political spectrum, this paper aims to demonstrate the specific roles of declared and value-based left–right political orientations, the effects of external and internal political efficacy, the feelings of anomie, and the requ…

The influence of positive feelings toward the elected party and negative feelings toward the other parties are tested here.…

The Endurance of the Czech Communist Party

The existence of an unreformed Communist Party stems from its historical roots in the country and the impact of the normalization period on the party’s membership base. However, in the post-communist period, we see that the party’s electoral fortunes have been tied to the position and politics of the ČSSD. Further, we have demonstrated that the KSČM has a loyal support base largely comprised of older voters. The KSČM voters’ views are distinct and further to the left of ČSSD voters, and as such, the …

Economic Justice in the Czech Republic, 1991-1995

The article examines the results of 1991 and 1995 ISJP (International Social Justice Project) surveys conducted in the Czech Republic. The surveys showed that among citizens of post-communist countries Czechs stood closest to the West in their profile of beliefs and attitudes about economic justice. Proměny české politické scény - strany a voliči

This article maps out the shifts in votes to the Parliament and the developing stability of voting behaviour in relation to the developing system of political parties. It confirmed suppositions that the Czech political scene is in a process of development which will lead to a change in the party system. Krystalizace politických postojů, politického spektra a role hodnot ve volebním rozhodování

Krystalizace politických postojů, politického spektra a role hodnot ve volebním rozhodování

The basic structural cleavages of post-communist society should, according to Kitschelt /1992/ be aligned along two separate axes: the left-right awis and that of libertarianism-authoritarianism. The party systems in central and Eastern Europe were expected to structurate themselves along axes ranging from authoritarians and opponents of the market at one end and liberals and supporters of the market at the other.Where economic development was already advanced, as in the Czech Republic, many political parties …
