Author analyzes opinions of Czech men and women on division of housework. She finds out that the division is not equal and the inequality is perceived as unjust by majority of Czech men and women. She also finds out that this perception strengthen number of conflicts about the division of housework. Care work is neither socially recognized, nor equitably economically rewarded. It is performed by those lacking opportunities at formal labor market. Exploiting informal paid care workers is often the only (and even state supported) strategy of combining care and work and provision of care in middle class families. The article brings an overview of theoretical approaches to gender differences on the labor market and their critics. Based on data from a representative research of university graduates we explore their interpretation of the lower position of women on the labor market. In the 90´s, marriage rate dropped in the Czech Republic. Based on representative surveys of Czech population from 2005, we analyze reasons behind such behaviour and test Hoffmann-Nowotny’s hypothesis claiming that low first marriage rate is driven by low fertility rate. Whenever young people start making plans on a family, there tends to be a marriage plan. Where the idea of a family is distant to them, marriage seems unattractive.
