Party identification in the Czech Republic: inter-party hostility and party preference

This study introduces basic models of voting behaviour and describes in greater detail the findings and starting points of the model of party identification. It recapitulates findings related to the voting behaviour in the Czech Republic throughout the nineties, as well as the reasons leading to the application of the party identification model to the analyses of voting behaviour. The influence of positive feelings toward the elected party and negative feelings toward the other parties are tested here.…

The Endurance of the Czech Communist Party

The existence of an unreformed Communist Party stems from its historical roots in the country and the impact of the normalization period on the party’s membership base. However, in the post-communist period, we see that the party’s electoral fortunes have been tied to the position and politics of the ČSSD. The parliamentary election in the Czech Republic, May 2010

In May, 2010, the Czech Republic held parliamentary elections. The two parties that partnered with the ODS after the 2006 elections in minority government, the KDU-ČSL and the Green Party, are now absent from parliament. Two new parties, TOP 09 and Public Affairs, sprung onto the scene with over 10% votes each. The two pillars of the party system, the ODS and the CSSD, lost substantial support in the election. Patterns of family life courses in Europe – between standardization and diversity. A cross-national comparison of family trajectories and life course norms in European countries

Based on data from the ESS, round 3 we investigate 1) to what degree there still exist standardized patterns in the timing and sequencing of family transitions, 2) the relationship between family patterns and socially established norms. Our results confirm that the degree of destandardization varies across Europe. The most obvious tensions between rather traditional family patterns and liberalised norms were identified in Southern Europe.…

Nejdříve dítě, potom svatba? Rodinné dráhy neprovdaných matek

Using SEPM 2006 data this paper explores factors influencing a probability that unmarried mothers will marry after childbirth. The findings show that for the third of them unmarried parenthood is rather a new phase of family life-course leading to marriage than long term family arrangement. The higher probability to experience transition to marriage have unmarried mothers living in unmarried cohabitation, with higher education and who postponed marriage due a pregnancy.…
