První volby do Senátu. Analýza voleb do Senátu Parlamentu České republiky v roce 1996

The first Senate elections raised the question of the purpose of electing a representative body, whose existence have not been clearly explained or defended by its creators. The most common reason voters had for not participating in the 1996 Senate elections was their disagreement with the very its existence. These elections were the first experience with the two-round majority system. The Senate elections also showed that voters largely followed similar patterns to the Chamber of Deputies.…

Roste variabilita počátků rodinných drah?

This chapter compares family trajectories of young adults in 1990s with an older birth cohort. It uses entropy analysis to measure change in the heterogeneity of early family trajectories. The findings based on ISSP 2002 confirm that the family situations of cohorts born from the 1970s are becoming more diverse and de-standardized. However, the cohort born in the 1980s experience less diverse family statuses in their early twenties than older birth cohorts.  …

This paper explores the stability of men’s the first employment in the Czech Republic between 1989-2005. The first hypothesis based on globalization theory predicts an increase of job mobility. The second one expects that changes in job mobility reflect economic cycle, whereas third one predicts a temporal increase in the job mobility at the beginning of 1990s due to sector restructuring. Analyses of Social Cohesion Survey 2006 data do not confirm an increase of young men’s work mobility.  …

This chapter presents a concept of the transition into adulthood and the changes of this process in the contemporary societies. Using ESS 2006 data it shows that the social definition of adulthood is connected more closely with an economical independence than with a family formation. The text summarizes the reasons behind voter turnout and vote choice in 2006 Chamber of Deputies election. It illustrates similarity of abstainers and undecided voters whose role in elections increases. It also compares different models of vote choice and shows that the strongest explanation is provided by party identification, issue voting and leadership effects. The effect of class on voting is negligible.…

Text analyses factors which influenced the party choice in the 2006 Chamber of Deputies elections. The authors found out that for Czech voters the left-right ideological orientation is very important. Voters choose parties according to their position on various issues. This relationship between party choice and attitudes is strong mainly for those issues which load the left-right orientation. Party sympathy and leadership effects were even more stronger for party choice than issue voting.…

Firstly, the level and intensity of party identification is analyzed for each party the most identified voters are found among those of KSČM, KDU-ČSL and ODS.
