Chapter examines data sources of family research. The overview is limited to studies carried out in the last decade and those for which data are publicly available. The author provides an overview of relevant surveys and statistics on families, as well as information about where to find information on specific topics relevant for sociology of family, such as the attitudes to marriage and partnerships, sexual behaviour, parenting, abortion and family roles.

This chapter provides an inventory and evaluation of the large number of survey datasets dealing with political and public policy topics that have been fielded in the Czech Republic since 1990. The text contains an evaluation of survey based research for elections to the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate and sub-national elections for regional and local levels of government. This chapter explores if having high levels of knowledge of politics makes a difference to public policy preferences? Using a statistical simulation technique the evidence presented demonstrates that on the level of total public opinion the Czech electorate would be more rightist on economic issues and liberal on social issues if it had uniformly high levels of political knowledge.…

Single Motherhood and Child Mortality in Sub-Saharan African: A Life Course Perspective
Single motherhood in sub-Saharan Africa has received surprisingly little attention, although it is widespread and has critical implications for children’s wellbeing. Using survival analysis techniques, we estimate the probability of becoming a single mother over women’s life course and investigate the relationship between single motherhood and child mortality in 11 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
