De-standardization of Early Family Trajectories in the Czech Republic: A Cross-cohort Comparison
Using Czech ISSP 2002 data, which included questions on family history, this paper compares early family trajectories observed during the socialist period with those after the transition to market economy in the Czech Republic. It aims to (1) provide an empirical analysis of change in the heterogeneity of early family trajectories between the ages of 18 and 35 and (2) identify their distinct patterns. Low Membership in Czech Political Parties: Party Strategy or Structural Determinants?
Political parties in the post-communist countries are said to focus on electoral strategies and not on organizational building. Based on the detailed research of Czech political parties, we argue that political parties facing an environment that was hostile to organised partisanship adapted their organizational strategies to make party membership more attractive. The Parliament of the Czech Republic, 1993–2004
The first decade of the Czech democratic Parliament has seen the development of a newly conceptualised, bicameral Parliament in a new State. We identify general tendencies toward stabilisation, similar to Western European parliamentary practices. Another trend is the gradual change from organising the Parliament according to the majority principle to that of consensus. There is also a long-term clash over the powers of the Senate and a gradual erosion of the dominant role of the Chamber of Deputies.…

Searching for the Right Organization: Ideology and Party Structure in East-Central Europe
The article examines four centre-right parties in East-Central Europe in order to assess the impact of ideology on party organization and revisit the thesis of organizational weakness in the region. The data collected indicate that, together with electoral success, inherited resources and national context, ideology does indeed shape the style of organization. Text analyses the effect of turnout on the party support of different parties in the Czech Republic. After introduction of the main theories and research strategies of partisan effects of turnout hypotheses concerning this issue are tested. The results show that higher turnout is advantageous for the parties whose voters lack strong party identification (ČSSD and the Green Party). On the other hand, it brings lower gains to parties with disciplined electorate (ODS, KDU-ČSL and partly also for KSČM).…

The paper analyses the candidate selection procedure in political parties before the elections to the European Parliament. It focuses on the four main Czech political parties: ČSSD, KDU-ČSL, KSČM and ODS.
