  • Insider Perspectives on Corruption: A Czech Pilot Project Reveals What Experts Often Overlook

Findings from the project Corruption in Selected Sectors in the Czech Republic and Possibilities for Its Reduction have made their way to the blog of the Norwegian U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre. This centre focuses on studying the causes and pathways of corruption in society, documents its impacts, and identifies and supports efforts to address it. By collaborating with global research networks and practitioners, it follows new topics and advances the field of anti-corruption.

In the post "Mapping corruption from the inside: A sectoral study in the Czech Republic," researchers Kristýna Bašná and Radim Bureš present the results of a pilot study from the Czech Republic. In addition to expert estimates, their study primarily focuses on the perspectives of insiders—people who encounter corruption directly in their professional practice. The research reveals how corruption is perceived, circumvented, and normalized in six high-risk sectors, and demonstrates the value of qualitative, sector-specific methods for mapping and preventing corruption. The methodology, developed by the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, is now part of Czech national policy and offers inspiration for other countries seeking realistic and actionable evidence.

You can also follow the entire series dedicated to measuring and evaluating corruption.
