Project Duration: 2024 - 2028
The on-line Encyclopedia of Religion, founded in 2020, aims to be a fundamental guide for all those interested in historical and contemporary forms of religion, both in the Czech society and in the world. It is currently visited by over 10 thousand readers per month.
Since 2024, the development of the encyclopedia has been financed by the AV21 Strategy Programme Identity in the World of Wars and Crises, in cooperation with the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
In 2024, two dictionaries were added to the encyclopedia. First, an updated version of the Dictionary of Islam by Bronislav Ostřanský, which was prepared under the author's leadership by Markéta Vrbová, and secondly, an updated version of the Dictionary of Buddhism by Vladimír Miltner (+ 1997), prepared by Lubomír Ondračka and Zdeněk R. Nešpor. In 2025, we would like to continue with Josef Kolmaš's Dictionary of Tibetan Religion and the newly elaborated collective Dictionary of Czech Religious Figures of the 20th and 21st Centuries.
