Fenomén #scicomm: využití big data a jejich analýzy při sledování komunikace vědy na internetových stránkách českých výzkumných organizací

This study focused on science communication on the websites of Czech research institutions. Particularly, we inquired to what extent Czech science is shared with the public on the Internet and what differences can be found between the websites of social and natural science institutions. Textual analysis revealed that on the scientific websites, terms like “science” and “popularization” occurred together with references to scientific institutions, study, and research. In the case of natural sciences, th…

Partner preference and age: User’s mating behavior in online dating

Objective: We test whether real online-user mating behavior corresponds with expectations from both the sociobiological and social perspectives and explore the age differentials that individuals opt for when searching for a mate and how this evolves relative to the user’s age and gender. Background: Age plays a vital role in partner choice. Partner Selection Across the Life-Course: Age Variation in Partner Preferences in the Czech Republic

Partner Selection Across the Life-Course: Age Variation in Partner Preferences in the Czech Republic

The proportion of people seeking a partner later in life has increased in recent decades. However, studies exploring age variation in partner preferences are quite rare. We aim to fill this gap by examining the partner preferences for household care skills, financial resources, and education of unpartnered individuals aged 19–65 years (n = 1145) who participated in speed-dating events in the Czech Republic. We hypothesized that the importance of these characteristics varies with age, and that this variance m…

Věková homofilie na české online seznamce

Věková homofilie na české online seznamce

This article examines age homophily on a Czech online dating site using real user data. The model results support these hypotheses. Men are observed to prefer younger women, while women prefer men who are the same …

More Money, Less Housework? Relative Resources and Housework in the Czech Republic

More Money, Less Housework? Relative Resources and Housework in the Czech Republic

The paper explores the association between housework, earnings, and education. In contrast to the majority of existing studies from Western countries, this paper tests the bargaining theory in the Czech Republic. Given the high female labor force participation coupled with a tendency for women to drop out of the labor market for several years after childbirth, the country provides an interesting context to test the theory. Using data from the first wave of the Czech Household Panel, we apply multilevel mixed-e…

Jak se žije Čechům v současné Evropě

Jak se žije Čechům v současné Evropě

Globální svět čelí vážným společenským problémům, jejichž dopady můžeme vidět i v Evropě.
