Open Science II is a large-scale national project focused on building the National Data Infrastructure (NDI) and implementing the EOSC initiative in the Czech Republic. The project supports the creation and development of disciplinary repositories, data FAIRification, interoperability, the development of data tools, and the strengthening of educational and communication capacities in the field of open science. A broad research community is involved through an open call for mini-project proposals, enabling systemic change in research data management across disciplines. In both scope and ambition, it represents one of the most significant projects in the field of research infrastructure in the Czech Republic.
The Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences leads the key activity “Thematic Cluster: Social Sciences,” which aims to build a modern, internationally compatible infrastructure for managing, sharing, and reusing social science data. The activity connects and develops two existing repositories—the Czech Social Science Data Archive (ČSDA) and DataHub—and complements them with a new repository for sensitive data, which has so far been missing in the Czech environment.
The resulting infrastructure will enable the secure storage, FAIRification, and accessibility of a wide range of social science data—from traditional survey data and experimental economic data to synthetic and spatial data. The activity also includes the development of methodologies and metadata models, tools for anonymization and data protection, risk analysis related to modern AI technologies, and the development of services for data visualization and analysis.
The Social Sciences key activity thus significantly strengthens the Czech social science data infrastructure, supports international interoperability, and contributes to the advancement of open science and high-quality research in the Czech Republic.
