Gender in Horizon Europe Missions

This GENDERACTION publication presents recommendations for integrating the gender dimension into the five Horizon Europe missions: cancer, climate-neutral cities, healthy oceans and waters, soil health, and adaptation to climate change. Drawing on examples from research and practice, it demonstrates how biological differences and socially constructed gender roles shape people’s needs, exposure to risks, and the impacts of proposed solutions. It highlights the importance of sex and gender analysis throughout the research and innovation cycle, including consideration of intersecting social factors. The publication offers policymakers, research teams, and evaluators concrete measures for data collection and analysis, the inclusion of gender expertise, and balanced representation in decision-making, with the aim of improving the quality, effectiveness, and societal benefits of the missions.
