Podnikatelky?

Podnikatelky?

Rozdíl v odměňování žen a mužů a rodičovství. [The gender pay gap and parenthood.]

ČR vykazuje dlouhodobě jeden z nejvyšších rozdílů v průměrných mzdách mužů a žen (GPG) v rámci EU. Za příčinu vy-sokého GPG bývá v ČR často považována rozdílná úroveň vzdělání anebo segregace do kategorií zaměstnání. Segrega-ce do kategorií zaměstnání nicméně vysvětluje pouze asi čtvrtinu celkového rozdílu mezd a ženy dosahují vyššího vzdě-lání než muži. Článek se proto zaměřuje na otázku dalších faktorů, jež s GPG souvisí, a klade si konkrétn…

Gender inequalities within copreneurships in the Czech and Slovak Republics

Gender inequalities within copreneurships in the Czech and Slovak Republics

Research on women’s entrepreneurship often fails to uncover the gendered way in which women’s roles and responsibilities are portrayed and it neglects the connections between ideas about what roles women play in business and in the family and the social context in which these ideas are embedded. This article focuses on the gender inequalities that are reflected in the construction of men’s and women’s roles and responsibilities in copreneurships (romantic couples in business together) and how those con…

Structured Agency and Motherhood among Copreneurs in the Czech Republic

Structured Agency and Motherhood among Copreneurs in the Czech Republic

We interviewed separately partners in twelve CR copreneurial couples to understand their possibly divergent perspectives on motives for copreneurship. Blenkinsopp and Owens argue that family businesses are a uniquely hybrid organizations that blend economic and caring concerns. Our analysis is guided by a structured-agency approach that focuses on how societal norms, the economy, and government policies influence entrepreneurial decisions. Our findings reveal how women’s caring concerns can converge with tra…

Blending, credit, context: Doing business, family and gender in Czech and US copreneurships

Blending, credit, context: Doing business, family and gender in Czech and US copreneurships

Utilising a comparative/doing gender approach and thematic narrative methodology, we examine how copreneurs – romantic business partners – construct business and caring responsibilities. We interviewed male-female partners separately from 12 couples in the Czech Republic (CR) and 13 in the United States (US), countries with diverse entrepreneurial histories, norms and family policies. We ask: (1) How do copreneurs construct/‘do’ business and family? (2) How do copreneurs credit contributions of partner…

Women

Women's Entrepreneurial Realities in the Czech Republic and the United States: Gender Gaps, Racial/Ethnic Disadvantages, and Emancipatory Potential

Women entrepreneurs are not a homogenous group, intersectional approaches are essential to grasp how multiple dimensions of entrepreneurs’ social identities converge to frame opportunities. Our study focuses on the experiences and ambitions of small, purposively-selected samples of women business owners from two countries – the United States (US) and Czech Republic (CR). A combined contextual embeddedness/intersectional approach to entrepreneurship suggests that interwoven dimensions of identities position…

Gender balance power map

The qualitative study is focused on the issue of equal access of women (and men) into managerial and decision-making positions in a social enterprise and conventional one in the Czech Republic. The results of the study reflect a lack of focus on gender equality, low sensitivity to gender based discrimination, recurrence of gender stereotypes and the lack of internal policies (formal procedures) to promote women in leadership positions in the surveyed firms.…

Gender a energetika

Gender a energetika

Energy is not merely a technological field, it also influences and is influenced by the wider social context. From various perspectives energy impacts the lives of people and it shapes people, not just those who work in the field of energy, in various ways. This publication focuses specifically on how these processes operate from the perspective of gender equality. Gender inequality in the field of energy is not yet a subject much addressed in the Czech Republic: it is not the subject of research surveys, it d…

Czech Copreneur Orientations to Business and Family Responsibilities: A Mixed Embeddedness Perspective

Gender a rovnováha moci

In the Czech Republic, women are severely under-represented in decision-making positions. Women make up only 26% of legislators, senior officials and managers, and only 3% of employed women are employed in management positions. These figures have not changed significantly over time. Gender equality infrastructure is almost wholly limited to the central level (Government and Ministries) in the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic there is currently no legislation or policy aimed at achieving a gender bala…
