Trendy ve vývoji výpadků návratnosti českých šetření po r. 1990

Non-response rates among Czech respondents in surveys between 1995 and 2005 were almost twice the rate between 1991 and 1995. Such trends point to a decline in the “survey climate.” While non-contacts and refusals are a significant problem, issues relating to how fieldwork is undertaken are equally important. The large fluctuations in non-contacts and the relative success of the Czech Statistical Office and the ESS II. survey demonstrates that prudent surveying strategies can be effective.…

A low response rate is regarded as one of the main sources of variable variance and bias in mass survey estimates. There is a consensus among scholars and pollsters that response-rate trends have been declining, and that this fact poses one of the most serious problems affecting contemporary quantitative social science research. Non-Response in Probability Sample Surveys in the Czech Republic

Non-response trends in Czechia point to a decline in the survey climate in 1990s. While non-contacts and refusals are a significant problem, issues relating to how fieldwork is undertaken are equally important. The relative success of the Czech Statistical Office in attenuating non-response demonstrates that prudent surveying strategies can be effective. An examination of two waves of the European Social Survey reveals both the problems and strategies available for response rate enhancement.…

Approaching Quality in Survey Research: Towards a Comprehensive Perspective

The article has two goals: (1) bring attention to the problem of inappropriate treatment of survey data quality issues in the social sciences, and (2) introduce the basic principles of contemporary approaches to survey quality. If quality evaluation focuses solely on sampling error, most aspects of data quality are ignored and surveys are assumed to have ‘ideal’ statistical characteristics that are rarely attainable in the pragmatic world of survey fieldwork.…
