Photovoltaics (PV) are an integral part of the climate neutrality transition, aside from reducing fossil fuel consumption, they provide additional and impactful private and societal benefits. When purchasing PV, the decision-making of small investors is a complex process. We investigate how households decide to invest in PV on rooftops. From a sample of over 2500 respondents, we found that while personal financial benefits are the primary motivation for acquiring PV plants, other variables, such as production …

What shapes the concentration/deconcentration processes? The factors influencing internal migration of immigrants in Czechi

The distribution of foreigners is becoming an essential part of socio-geographical differentiation of Czechia. In addition to international migration, the spatial distribution patterns of non-natives are further modified according to their internal mobility, which, compared to the majority population, is much higher. On the basis of the population registry and a quantitative survey (N = 912), we analyzed internal mobility of two of the most numerous groups of immigrants in Czechia (Vietnamese and Ukrainians). …

Disadvantaged and Disadvantaging Regions: Opportunity Structures and Social Disadvantage in Rural Peripheries

Disadvantaged and Disadvantaging Regions: Opportunity Structures and Social Disadvantage in Rural Peripheries

Regional peripheralisation has been repeatedly described as a process resulting in the combination of regional structural and social disadvantage. In theory, peripheries are characterised by the interdependence of these two types of disadvantage. Few studies have examined this interdependence in rural peripheries across several countries. In this study, we operationalise rural peripherality combining poor opportunity structures that constrain the social and economic opportunities of the local population, …

The paper presents the conceptual and methodological approach as well as selected findings of a recently completed cross-national, German-Czech research project.…

In the past two years, the situation has changed significantly due to both external and internal circumstances. Externally, the introduction of g…

The Polls—Trends: Welfare Regimes and Support for Income Redistribution in Europe.

Income redistribution and changes in redistributive policies are highly contested issues that often have a bearing on societal debate and electoral competition. Using European Social Survey data, we trace trends in public attitudes toward income redistribution in 18 European countries from 2002 to 2019, a time period which included the Great Recession, the 2015 migrant crisis, and an increase in income inequality. Although attitudes toward income redistribution were relatively stable, trends presented by count…

Výzkum ukázal častou bagatelizaci a hierarchizaci násilných projevů a potvrdil dříve konstatovanou omezenou schopnost systému násilí účinně zastavit. Výzkum se zaměřil…

We outline and compare the merits and possible drawbacks of three different a…

How Does „The Share of the Pie“ Matter? European Empirics on the Financial Satisfaction of Partners.

This paper aims to extend the knowledge of the relationship between within-couple income distribution and partners’ financial satisfaction, using data from the EU-SILC 2013 for 15 European countries, for the first time including data from Eastern Europe. We find that men’s preferences typically concur with the traditional male-breadwinner family model, as husband’s satisfaction decreases with a larger female share of household income. In contrast, in nine countries, men’s satisfaction actually increase…

Dilemmas of housing-asset-based welfare in the post-socialist context: the case of the Czech Republic.

Dilemmas of housing-asset-based welfare in the post-socialist context: the case of the Czech Republic.

In the Czech Republic, buying housing is regarded as a way of attaining financial security in old age. People are, however, wary about using Housing-Asset-Based Welfare instruments that would allow them to withdraw housing equity. This article explains the contradictions surrounding housing-equity release in the post-socialist context and the barriers and catalyst behind the wider use of two specific instruments – reverse mortgages and reverse schemes. The paper focuses on the generation of Czechs in their f…

Důvody, motivy a okolnosti bezdětnosti mužů

Téma bezdětnosti mužů není v českém prostředí doposud dostatečně zmapováno z perspektivy žité zkušenosti a reflexe této zkušenosti samotnými muži. Text si proto klade otázku, jak muži svou bezdětnost zvýznamňují/prožívají a interpretují z hlediska svých motivací, preferencí a voleb i vzhledem k podmínkám a okolnostem svých životů. Analýza vychází z problémově orientovaných rozhovorů uskutečněných s 12 bezdětnými muži různého věku a vzdělání, kdy se sedmi …

Bezdětnost mužů z perspektivy hegemonické maskulinity./Male childlessness from the perspective of hegemonic masculinity.

In contemporary (not only) Czech society, the share of childless persons is increasing. Research in the field of social sciences focuses mainly on explanation of female childlessness than male one. This text tries to at least partially fill the gap in research when focusing on male childlessness from the perspective of masculinity, resp. hegemonic masculinity. Thematic analysis of repeated problem-oriented interviews with 12 heterosexual men (of different age and education) focuses on explanation of the life e…
