Regionální změny

The chapter evaluates the regional changes in the Czech society on the level of districts in the period from 1991 to 2001. On the basis of census and the other statistics analyzes the regional differences in age structure, education, economic activity, average incomes, and religious affiliation. Data from large surveys are used for the study of regional differences in social status. Cultural differences among regions tend to decrease while economic one tend to increase.…

Building on an analysis of current empirical surveys the chapter focuses on mapping and analyzing the inclusion of women in politics in the Czech Republic. The main objective is to study the reasons for the low representation of women in political functions in the Czech Republic. The Orlicko region comprises the municipalities in the Association of Municipalities Orlicko in the Pardubice Region. It is presented in a wider spatial and temporal context as a border region experiencing the problems of a periphery. Leaves, Allowances, and Facilities: Childcare Past and Present

We argue that despite the assumption that there was a cohesive ideology of care during the communist regime, changes in ideologies, institutional settings and practices of childcare came about in Czechoslovakia in different decades. Reasons for post-1989 childcare in Czech society (and other postcommunist countries contradicting declination of male breadwinner) are rooted in past. Current development in Czech society strengthens misrecognition of care and class and gender bias in citizenship.…

Roste variabilita počátků rodinných drah?

This chapter compares family trajectories of young adults in 1990s with an older birth cohort. It uses entropy analysis to measure change in the heterogeneity of early family trajectories. The findings based on ISSP 2002 confirm that the family situations of cohorts born from the 1970s are becoming more diverse and de-standardized. However, the cohort born in the 1980s experience less diverse family statuses in their early twenties than older birth cohorts. …

Stávají se pracovní dráhy mladých mužů nestabilními?

This paper explores the stability of men’s the first employment in the Czech Republic between 1989-2005. The first hypothesis based on globalization theory predicts an increase of job mobility. The second one expects that changes in job mobility reflect economic cycle, whereas third one predicts a temporal increase in the job mobility at the beginning of 1990s due to sector restructuring. Analyses of Social Cohesion Survey 2006 data do not confirm an increase of young men’s work mobility. …

This chapter presents a concept of the transition into adulthood and the changes of this process in the contemporary societies. Using ESS 2006 data it shows that the social definition of adulthood is connected more closely with an economical independence than with a family formation.
