Czech Regions are very different in terms of affordability of ownership housing because regional differences in prices are larger that regional differences in household incomes. Ownership housing is the least affordable in Prague and South Moravia while the most affordable in Usti and Moravia-Silesia Regions. Analysis of data from period 2000-2006 proved that affordability of ownership housing is quickly changing over time.…

The popular image of Prague is that the city is rich and its citizens earn high salaries and have high living standard. The chapter asks two questions: Do higher average salaries of Prague citizens mean higher purchasing power? Are all citizens of Prague better-off than people living outside Prague? Examination of the data about both salaries and prices in Prague and in other Czech regions proves that the advantage of higher salaries in Prague is substantially devaluated high costs of housing and many services…
