This volume looks at the risks affecting the private life of individuals, risks that have been ushered in by changes in the labour market, and it examines whether the shape of the family is changing in the Czech Republic and what groups are most affected by and who most at risk from these changes. The authors also examine the ways in which work life and the private or intimate sphere interact and how individuals cope with the effects of one sphere on the other.…

Based on the data of the research Regional Elites 2004 a measure of cooperation importance is counted. It indicates an ability to cooperate with the different actors influencing regional decision-making. It could be useful for a comparison with the other groups of elites. Hodnocení rozvojových možností kraje a navrhované cesty k jejich dosažení
The opinions of the regional elite on the development possibilities of the regions were analyzed. Most of respondents are optimistic. The effort in gaining the money from EU funds, preferential support for domestic small and medium enterprises, and the support for the development of tourism was most often mentioned as the main development priorities the regions should concentrate. There is more or less consensus about the main development priorities among the different types of regional elite.…

Opinion on the reasons which stood behind the reform, on success of the new system, on adequacy of the responsibilities entrusted to the regional authorities and on obstacles these authorities have been facing are the main issues covered by the paper. The regional elites express a higher level of generalized and institutional trust in comparison with the average among the Czech population. The cause of this difference can be found in the income inequalities and in the level of education. The presented study deals with the political consequences of the suburbanization process in the four largest metropolitan areas in the Czech Republic after 1989. The study acquaints readers with two methods of measuring value orientations developed by S.H.Schwartz. Attention is focused especially on the Portrait Values Questionnaire that was used in the European Social Survey in 2002 and 2004. Why did distinct types of dual-earner models in Czech, Slovak and East German societies develop and persist?
We examine pre1989 and post1989 work-care models in Czech, Slovak and East German societies. Once problems of the modernized gender model emerged, Czechoslovakia and GDR set two distinct policy paths and differences in work-care practices and values emerged. Based on the institutional and cultural legacy, we explain why the post1989 transition period was accompanied by continuity in work-care models and substantive changes evolved only then, in a period of stability.…
