Educational Homogamy of Married and Unmarried Couples in English and French Canada

This study investigates the relative similarity of educational assortative mating patterns among young married and cohabiting couples using Canadian census data from 2001. It contrasts the patterns observed in Quebec with those observed elsewhere in Canada, as these regions display very different demographic trends, especially with respect to cohabitation. One Pot or Two Pot Strategies? Income Pooling in Married and Unmarried Households in Comparative Perspective

This paper investigates money management. It compares married and cohabiting couples across four countries with different levels of institutionalization of cohabitation and different welfare regimes. Using data from the ISSP 2002, this study shows that the legal status of the union is one of the strongest predictors of the money pooling practices in all four countries. Cohabitors tend to choose independent money management more often than married couples. …

Invisible Religion in a "Non-believing" Country: The Case of the Czech Republic

The authors analyze contemporary ir/religiosity in the Czech Republic using data from national censuses, international surveys, and a specialized national survey of religion from 2006. They show that the influence of the socio-demographic characteristics on respondents’ religiosity, both traditional and alternative, exists but is weak. Visible minorities and 'White'-'Non-White' Conjugal Unions in Canadian Large Cities

The study investigates assortative mating patterns with respect to race (visible minority status) in Canada. Using the 2001 Census data, the article analyses the occurrence of White/non-White unions in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Log-linear models indicate that the relative levels of interracial relationships vary across racial groups, immigration status, and place of residence.
